Position Overview This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or qualifications associated with the job. The Payroll Manager is a critical role in a Company with a longstanding history and a promise of high-quality organic heirloom coffee. The Payroll Manager will be responsible for processing a biweekly payroll for salary and hourly full time and part time employees across ten locations including the commissary and corporate. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of CA & Nevada wage and hour laws, experience in the restaurant industry and experience processing payroll for a multi-state company.
Manage daily functions of the payroll department including calculation, processing, and distribution of payroll payments for bi-weekly payroll across multiple cafe locations across Los Angeles, Orange County and Las Vegas.
Develop and maintain an accurate and timely method of reporting payroll data to the accounting department and other departments as required.
Oversee the payroll tax function including accounts set up, quarterly and annual reconciliation, amendments to tax filings and preparations of W-2 forms and related annual reporting requirements.
Work with Human Resources to process final pay for voluntary and involuntary terminations.
Assist HR with subpoenas for payroll records
Ensure accurate processing of medical and 401k deductions, monthly reconciliation of medical benefit deductions against vendor invoices.
Responsible for accurate and timely response to garnishment notifications
Works with operations to address specific concerns and meet the needs of operations management staff.
Develop and implement payroll, benefits and tax procedures for accounting department and operations.
Communicate with Operations, HR and accounting for cross-location impacts and reconcile data sharing.
Identify control and /or process inefficiencies and propose enhancements to the current process to recommend best practices for department.
Lead month-end close and year end processing for payroll department including review and approval or journal entries and account reconciliation
Stay current on changes to federal, state and local payroll laws to ensure Company compliance with these laws.

College Degree or equivalent experience
5 years experience in Payroll Manager role preferred
Advanced computer skills including the ability to access and analyze data, create reports, memos, and presentations using the various restaurant software utilized
Experience with Real Time Payroll a plus
Solid understanding of payroll best practices
Working knowledge of federal and state regulations, including wage and hours laws.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams
