About this position (core role):
Purchasing Senior Quality Engineer for supplier quality improvement activity with part suppliers in North America.
Lead Department Business plan performance measurable and targets, forecast impact, monitor results & develop gap elimination plans to achieve Department goals. Provide overall communication, coordination and management of assigned activities. Provide leadership by directing and supporting in investigation (process and quality systems) and root cause analysis. Approve or provide guidance to identify corrective actions that eliminate defect reoccurrence (problem solving/PDCA). Understand FMVSS regulations, North American (NA) Supplier SQM and NA problem ranking guidelines. Understand part drawings, specifications and applications. Manage several projects at the same time (error proofing, 6 Step, etc.). Maintain project documentation and escalate when necessary (line side/office visual management). Presentations to Supplier & Honda Purchasing Senior Management as required. Lead/facilitate training to Supplier Representatives as requested/required by project demands and improvements. Lead overall projects from planning phase to closure with minimal or no direction from Management. Interface, lead meetings and schedule travel plans, etc. Gather/analyze data – identify weakness. Properly prioritize complete business demands. Development/implement corrective actions and procedures. Establish and monitor target/goals. Lead project/system assessment teams and communicate results.

Ability to represent Honda and convey corporate direction and value to supplier’s corporate and facility quality leadership.
Ability to gain respect from supplier’s top management and persuade them regarding their need to change and improve.
Ability to driven change by challenging suppliers to implement characteristic improvements.
Ability to apply customer and supplier viewpoints when assessing situations.
Working knowledge of PFMEA.
Working knowledge of PQCT.
Ability to understand part drawings, specifications and applications.
Understands problem solving methods (e.g., 5P).
Ability to maintain focus by controlling diversions.
Ability to make sound decisions with limited direction.
Ability to persuade others to accept a different point of view when they are reluctant to acknowledge a gap.
Ability to initiate interactive discussions to ensure two-way sharing of thoughts and ideas.
Ability to troubleshoot complex problems in a team based work environment.
Strong oral and written communication.
Experience in Honda Manufacturing Plant Parts Quality Department (or equivalent).
Working knowledge of Honda’s SQM(s).
Working knowledge of Honda’s Change Point Control requirements.
Required Work Experience:
Minimum of five years experience in Honda Manufacturing Plant Parts Quality (or equivalent).
Bachelors’ degree in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Quality) or equivalent experience.
A few other important details:
Good understanding of Honda’s manufacturing environment and basic understanding of parts, system and functions. Willingness to work approximately 5-10 hours of overtime per week. Willingness to travel approximately 25% (domestic & international).
