About this position:
The candidate will work as Capacity Management expert in the Mainframe Domain. They will contribute to the Capacity planning activities building the yearly capacity plan and ensuring its monthly follow up; they will forecast the evolution of the resources vs the demand. They will lead or participate to the projects, to ensure control over capacity and performance aspects inside these projects (sizing, performance target, volumes impact, simulation). They will oversight service operations with daily performance aspects of daily infrastructure support services operations.
COBOL coding; DB2/SQL statements, batch job and online task (CICS, DB2, MQSeries / Websphere) optimization, schedule adjustments, database tuning, NDM compression, etc., DASD and tape clean-up opportunities, etc.
Storage: reviewing size/alter/reducing disk and tape storage.
Capacity Planning: reviewing SMF type records for statistical system resource reporting and ability to execute and decipher Strobe utility.
VSAM optimization, DB2 upgrades, Compiler end-of-life, and Output Report reduction.
Performance Improvement Recommendations: description of the problem, detailed solutions and recommendations and cost savings.
Metrics: Baseline and Post-implementation Metrics, estimates vs. actuals, Rate Cards for different Regions, etc.
What you need to be successful in this role
Business Process Tools: MS Excel, MS Word, MS Power Point (Data Reporting and Graphing), MS Outlook, SAS Enterprise Guide, & Ticketing agents.
Tools: IBM APA / CA- SAR, SPUFI, QMF SAS/MXG/SAS Enterprise Guide, Omegamon Performance Tool, & SYNCSORT for z/OS
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, involved in client interactions for scoping, effort estimations and status reporting
Talented communicator and team player, able to build working relationships with wide range of coworkers
Excellent analytical and presentation skills
Extremely well organized, with proven ability to multi-task and prioritize workload
Strong internal or external negotiation skills and ability to facilitate cross-functional teams.
Knowledge of TPR procedures.
Data Center Infrastructure planning
An understanding of the mainframe MVS/JES environment practices and processes.
Familiarity with EXCEL, REXX, SAS, COBOL coding, SMF, JCL, utilities, CICS, DB2, MXG, etc.
Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and through written presentations and reports) with internal and external clients.
Required Work Experience
Minimum 10 years of experience in all facets of Operations support on the Mainframe platform, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and deployment with focus on COBOL, CICS & JCL and VSAM, production support experience under stringent SLA’s for high volume Online and Batch Mainframe systems
Minimum 10 years of experience in mainframe technology: performance tuning, storage, capacity planning, etc.
Extensive experience on CICS and Batch Workload manager definitions
Extensive exposure to multi-tier mainframe architecture and capacity planning
Strong knowledge in Object oriented and procedural concepts
BS/BA or equivalent combination education and/or work experience
